Dropbox fights by independent infrastructure from cloud service of Amazon.

Dropbox

Dropbox aims at substantiality of service under the idea of "Simplify your life"

Dropbox, providing a definitive service to save photos and documents in the cloud, announced that it has migrated more than 90% of the file data of the user from  in the Amazon web service to the infrastructure that was built in-house.  Its contents have been posted on the company's blog.

Though Dropbox, Inc. had been managed for the meta-data of user information in-house from a previous,  the users file datas has saved in the AWS.

Dropbox shows a further presence in the cloud service industries

The cloud service world, including Google DriveAmazon Cloud drive and iCloud, service and the function has become more variously and severe in competition .

Meanwhile Dropbox set a philosophy "Simplify your life", that features you can save files to the cloud with a simple operation.

The number of the registration user reaches 500 million people, and preserved volume of information goes up to 500 petabytes. When it'll be the unit as the petabyte, it'll be the amount which won't be imaginable any more, but Mr. James Cowling say that  we collect the amount of information of the humanity from the dawn of history to the present day to 50 petabytes. In other words, the history up to modern 10 doses have been stored in the cloud services of Dropbox.

The transition to this time of their storage, allows them to customize to create their own block storage, on the other hand, it results in more data are stored, and the burden of management will increase. They have confidence in their storage.

Hope increases in their service and risk of self-reliance

Dropbox feature is that if you install the software on a PC, smart phone or tablet, you can use on multiple devices. You can save photos easily and immediately in everyday life, moreover, it is automatically synchronized with each of the devices.

In such the goodness of  usability, there is a weakness.

  • There is only up to 2GB capacity limit of free use (in Amazon cloud drive, for 5GB and Google Drive, 15GB).
  • Sometime the line is slow
  • you need to install on each PC and smart phones.
  • Rights management can not be only for each folder

They would be able to custamize of hardware and software by shifting to in-house storage, so there is a possibility that such fault will be improved.

But there is also risk with  for managing by themselves. We would worry about safety above all as the user on the side who leaves information with cloud service. When data went off somewhere in Dropbox which functions as an automatic, the erasure synchronizes with other devices. Dropbox will be responsible more than ever for such outflow of information

Whereas the reduction of cost can be expected at this time of transition, if Dropbox can not meet the needs of a sufficient customer, their business might get stuck.

Such risk is held, Dropbox have embarked their own routes. In the future, how will they simplify our lives?
